Bible verses changed since Darby

Summary

Since Darby's translation of the Bible, 2 Thess 2:2 has been translated differently. With the translations before Darby, the doctrine of Pre-Tribulation Rapture is hardly justifiable.

The following table shows how 2 Thess 2:2 has been translated in English-speaking countries over the centuries.

2 Thess 2:1-3 1 Now brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together to Him, we ask you

2 not to be quickly disturbed in mind [literally: away from reason] or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us,

as though the day of Christ is at hand.

[since Darby: as though the day of the Lord has come.]

3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is unveiled, the son of perdition,

As the table shows, 2 Thess 2:2 was translated differently before Darby presented his doctrine of Pre-Tribulation Rapture than afterward.

- before Darby:

... as if the day of Christ is at hand [is imminent].

- after Darby:

... as though the day of the Lord has come [is present].

Practically all English Bibles (except Catholic Bibles) translate differently since Darby.

This impressively documents the triumphant advance of the doctrine of Pre-Tribulation Rapture in the English-speaking world, which is also reflected in the translation of the Bible.
